Timor Skull Ammonite - Silver

This substantial and three dimensional Timor Skull Ammonite pendant is cast in sterling silver. These ammonites are found in the ancient sea beds of Timor, a part of the Malay Archipelago. A skull is carved along the side of the ammonite and we have set a 10mm rose cut Onyx in the spiral center on the reddish side. The ivory side is equally beautiful with an iridescent spiral center. The pendant is 3-1/8" long and completely reversible. There is just one of these available.

What is an Ammonite?  Although it is easy to imagine that today’s Nautilus descended from the Ammonite, the extinct marine Ammonite was more closely related to the octopus, squid and cuttlefish then the nautilus. Ammonites belonged to the class Cephalopoda and first appeared during the Devonian age. Their spiral shape shells are beautiful and the species evolved over millenniums. Depending on ocean sediments and aquatic chemistry the fossilization process creates varied results. There are Ammonites with intricate jade patters; opalized, spiky, rainbow, red flash and pyritized Ammonites.
