Carved Skull and Nautilus Pendant with Garnet - Silver

$975.00
Colossal Carved Skull Ammonite Nautilus Pendant with 10mm Garnet

This unique carved Skull and Nautilus Necklace is fit for the most discerning Pirate or Siren. The detailed Nautilus is cast in solid sterling silver and is drilled and pegged securely into the carved fossilized ammonite. A detailed skull is carved along one side of the ammonite and an 10mm faceted garnet is bezel set in the hollow.  The diagonal length of the pendant is 2 1/2" long.  Alisha hand picked this unique ammonite on our recent buying trip to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show. Each specimen has its unique characteristics and time worn imperfections. (You would too if you were 65 - 300 million years old.)

Included in the price is a heavy 18" sterling silver anchor chain.

What is an Ammonite?  Although it is easy to imagine that today’s Nautilus descended from the Ammonite, the extinct marine Ammonite was more closely related to the octopus, squid and cuttlefish then the nautilus. Ammonites belonged to the class Cephalopoda and first appeared during the Devonian age. Their spiral shape shells are beautiful and the species evolved over millenniums. Depending on ocean sediments and aquatic chemistry the fossilization process creates varied results. There are Ammonites with intricate jade patters; opalized, spiky, rainbow, red flash and pyritized Ammonites.
