Marston Marble Ammonite Neckpiece with Rainbow Moonstone

Alisha sculpted a fabulous organic setting for this stunning Marston Marble Ammonite neckpiece. The setting she carved is like a window into the depths of our prehistoric oceans and allows for both sides of the fossil to be admired. A 4mm Rainbow Moonstone is set within an undulating wave in the top corner. The piece is lost wax cast in sterling silver and has an 18" figure eight chain soldered to two bails on the back. This Marston Ammonite Fossil Pendant is 1-1/4" high x 1-1/2" wide. The overall length of the pendant with the chain is 19". There is only one of these available.

Ammonites are an extinct marine mollusk in the class of Cephalopoda. Ammonites thrived from the beginning of the Jurassic period, 201 million years ago through the Cretaceous period, about 66 million years ago. Their distribution was worldwide in shallow warm seas Along with the dinosaurs, they died out during the mass meteor extinction when photosynthesis was interrupted. Their fossil skeletons are found in sedimentary rocks worldwide and are a good stratigraphy indicator for scientists.
