Our Iris is in full bloom and it makes a lovely pair of earrings. This beautiful Iris flaunts curvaceous frilled petals and the stem is detailed with unfolding leaves. It is cast in sterling silver and is 1 3/8" long and 1/2" across. A chain slips through side openings between the petals and hangs from the ear wire. Bringing this design to fruition was fraught with technical challenges but I am thrilled with how it turned out. Creating an intricate design with an open center is difficult so the piece was cast in two parts and the halves soldered together.
Did you know that in Greek Mythology, Iris is the Goddess of the rainbow? The French 'Fleur de Lys' is the graphic interpretation of the Iris and that the Iris is a favored flower in great art throughout history.
