Imperial Ammolite - 3 - 17.5 ct

This piece of Imperial Ammolite is a fossilized and mineralized stone, cut from a Canadian Ammonite. The Imperial Ammolite pieces are unique in that both sides of the stone have a colorful, opalescent mosaic pattern. This tear drop shaped piece weighs 17.5 carats, is 1 long and 13/16" wide. The pattern of the stone is reminiscent of a dragon's scales. I imagine creating a delicate, 18K gold dragon pendant around this piece, so that both sides of the exquisite stone can be enjoyed.

An Imperial Ammolite is a naturally double sided stone. It is not two ammolites glued together to create this illusion and It does not have it have any epoxy on the surface or any filling. After traveling to the 2024 Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil show, like any good dragon, I have decided to hoard this piece rather than regret selling it. We inquired of many Canadian Ammolite dealers and most said they had never seen one or denied their existence.  All of the Ammolite cabochons we saw were treated with epoxy to enhance their beauty and were manufactured into doublets or triplets.
