Red Flash Ammonite Nautilus Pendant with 6mm Rhodolite Garnet - Sterling Silver
This fossilized rainbow flash ammonite pendant features brilliant red iridescence, highlighted by a 6mm rhodolite garnet tube-set directly into its center. Alisha handpicks each ammonite specimen at the annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, selecting only the finest pieces available. Every shell carries its own unique characteristics and time-worn imperfections—a well-earned mark of distinction for a fossil aged between 65 and 300 million years. Measuring approximately 2-3/8 inches diagonally from the top of the bail to the tip of the tentacle, the piece is finished with hand carved nautilus tentacles cast in solid sterling silver using the lost-wax method—which is drilled and pegged securely into the ammonite shell.
An ammonite is an extinct marine mollusk that lived millions of years ago, first appearing during the Devonian period and dying out alongside the dinosaurs about 66 million years ago. Although their spiral, chambered shells resemble the modern nautilus, these Cephalopods are actually more closely related to modern octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. Over time, unique ocean sediments and aquatic chemistry transformed their remains into diverse fossils, featuring gorgeous rainbow iridescence, opalized shells, or pyritized gold hues.
