I was inspired to create this Cypress-Bonsai Tree pendant by the windswept and gnarled Cypress trees that grow along the Monterey Bay. The Venerable Cypress Tree is a testimony of endurance, adaptation and survival. The pendant is cast in solid 14k gold and is 1 1/4" high and 1 1/8" across. A 5mm tsavorite is set in the curvature between the trunk and branches. As I sculpted the piece in wax, framing the tree in a circle and adding windswept clouds and curvaceous waves, I began to see the design through two lenses. Whether you perceive this design as the Monterey Cypress tree or as a Japanese Bonsai tree, both are testimonies to endurance, adaptation and survival.
